The red round and sweet wild strawberries which spontaneously grow in Nemi have always been a delicious thirst quencher for the pilgrims, directed to Jerusalem or returning from the Holy Land, traveling along the Via Appia and Southern Via Francigena.
This unique Summer fruit can be tasted with cream, ice, liqueurs, preserved or in the preparation of cakes.
The wild strawberries owe their special taste to the peculiar climate of the wood where they grow, by the Lake Nemi.
The first Sunday in June an important festival is celebrated in this village in the area of Castelli Romani, in which several women called “fragolare” pick up the strawberries in their colorful traditional costume.
