The historical origins of Vico nel Lazio, in the province of Frosinone about 98 km from Rome, are uncertain and could date back to the 6th century AD. In referring to the life of St. Dominic, founder of the Monastery of Trisulti, documents dating to the year 1000 speak of donations of lands made by the inhabitants of Vico nel Lazio to the monastic community.

In 1200, the village became a free Commune, with its own Statutes and administrative power.

During the so-called war with Boniface (1303-1312), Vico was a subject of Alatri and therefore its flag bears the Alatrian insignias.

After the middle of the 17th century, Vico returned to the direct dependence of the Popes.

The medieval Palazzo del Governatore, where the representative of the feudatory prince resided, for a long period was the summer residence of the Colonna Princes.

The Church of San Michele preserves a Byzantine mosaic (10th century), a wooden and mother-of-pearl cross from Jerusalem, and an oil painting (17th century) depicting the Trinity.

The most ancient Church is Santa Maria, with 17th century frescoes and an interesting Roman crypt.

Finally in the Church of San Giorgio are remains of frescoes, some paintings and an ancient banner.
The patron saint of Vico, San Marco is celebrated on April 23rd, the day of San Giorgio, with the lighting of huge bonfires, known as fauni.

The town’s traditions include artisan wood and iron work, and is a starting point for excursions to the Certosa di Trisulti and surrounding mountains.
