The Financial Times celebrates the fountains of Rome

We know that English tourists in Rome, not only appreciate art, gardens, and cuisine, but also adore the fountains, where to cool off from the summer heat. For this reason, the British newspaper Financial Times has created a mapping of the most beautiful fountains in Rome, included the least known to the English tourists.

Among them, the Fontana delle Rane in Piazza Mincio, in the Coppedè district, cannot be forgotten. There, in 1965, the Beatles, at the height of their global success, took a bath with their clothes on. Noteworthy is the Fontana dell’Acqua Paola, better known to Roman people as “Fontanone”, and immortalized in the Oscar-winning movie “La Grande Bellezza”. Equally renowned are the Fontana del Tritone in Piazza Barberini, one of Bernini’s most beautiful artworks, and the Fontana della Maschera in via Giulia, nicknamed “Mascherone”. Finally, in via Lata, the Fontana del Facchino, one of the five talking statues in Rome, depicticts a man carrying a barrel, from which fresh, drinkable water gushes out.

Let us forgive the “Financial Times” for the short list, as it would have been impossible to collect, in a newspaper article, the immense heritage of art, history and legend of the more than 1.500 fountains of Rome.
