Botero a Roma, the multi-site exhibition held in the major squares of the Roman centre, displays eight imposing bronze sculptures by the Colombian artist from the 1990s to the early 2000s.
Curated by his daughter, Lina Botero, the open-air exhibit, ending on October 1, 2024, represents an exciting preview of the richer exhibition, dedicated to the illustrious painter, which will open to visitors on September 17, 2024, in the halls of Palazzo Bonaparte. Strolling throughout the centre, you will come across both the statues of the “Seated Woman” from 2000 and the “Seated Woman” from 1991 in Piazza Mignanelli. In the Basilica of San Lorenzo in Lucina, you can admire a sculpted reproduction of a “Cat” from 1999 and, on the Terrazza del Pincio, the “Reclining Woman” from 2003, and the “Sleeping Venus” from 1994. Other works on display are the “Bridled Horse” from 2009, in Largo San Carlo al Corso, and “Adam” (The Standing Man), with “Eve”, (The Standing Woman), both from 1992 and positioned in Piazza del Popolo.
The eight sculptures by Botero, with their unmistakable extra-large shapes and round bodies, adorn some of the most impressive Roman Square.
The initiative is the first major event dedicated to Fernando Botero since his death, occurred on September 15, 2023.
