Medieval Italy at the Colle del Duomo in Viterbo

The “Polo Monumentale del Colle del Duomo” in Viterbo received the prestigious National Award “Italia Medievale”, a recognition assigned every year to personalities and institutions promoting and enhancing the medieval heritage of the territory.

The “Polo Monumentale del Colle del Duomo” in Viterbo includes the historic Palazzo dei Papi, which hosted the first and longest conclave in history, the Cathedral of San Lorenzo, and the Museum Colle del Duomo, where many archaeological findings and artworks from the Capital of Tuscia are displayed.

This prestigious recognition has been awarded to the Polo for disclosing Viterbo historical and artistic heritage to an increasing number of visitors, and for introducing the Middle Ages as a crucial era for the development of the Western world.

The prize represents a great success for the Diocese of Viterbo, owner of the Polo, and Archeoares, the company that has been managing the Museum since 2005. Thanks to their collaboration and mutual commitment in the evaluation of the site, Colle del Duomo is today a cultural attractor at national level.
