A new Giant Bench was inaugurated on November 1, 2024 in the ancient village of Castelmenardo di Borgorose, on the top of Mount San Mauro, at 1,1680 metres above sea level.
Created by the cultural association “Amici egliu castegliu”, in collaboration with the Municipality of Borgorose and many local volunteers, the new oversize bench overlooks the extraordinary landscape of the Cicolano area.
The artwork is nicknamed “The bench of the brigands (and of kindness)” being Mount San Mauro a place of passage of the Banda di Cartore, formed by the two brigands gangs of Cicolano and Colaiuda di Tornimparte. The Bench is reachable through a two km road starting in Collemaggiore, or walking along a mountain path from Castelmenardo. After the visit, you will be able to collect one more stamp for your “Giant Bench Passport” at the bar in the hamlet of Collemaggiore district.
The new Borgorose Bench is part of the “Big Bench Community Project Foundation” by the American designer Chris Bangle.
