The reopening of the Musei del Canopo at Villa Adriana

A new exhibition itinerary through the Mouseia – Musei del Canopo of Villa Adriana will be presented in Tivoli on October 21, 2025.

The event, curated by the Istituto Villa Adriana e Villa d’Este – Villae, will enhance the archaeological area, by opening the lower level of the complex, previously closed to the public.

Eight rooms arranged in sequence will house the most significant works from the archaeological excavations conducted over time. Among these, noteworthy are the are the Caryatids from the Canopus area, several imperial portraits, and the remains of the sculpture inspired by the Homeric legend of the monster Scylla devouring Ulysses’ companions.

Numerous decorations are also on display, such as frescoes from the so-called Macchiozzo area, recently restored and reassembled. In addition, the museums preserve several artifacts from Egypt, including a figure of Horus and a Sphinx, from twenty-year excavations in the Palestra and Antinoeion areas and, for the first time, a recently restored grey marble sculpture depicting two reclining figures from the Niobids statuary cycle.

A UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1999, the Musei del Canopo were born from the cooperation between the Uffici dell’Istituto Villa Adriana and Villa d’Este, and today they offer visitors full access to one of the world’s most iconic collections of ancient art.

Starting from October 22, the complex will be open to the public from Monday to Sunday. For information and tickets, please visit the dedicated website.
