TheWay of Saint Filippo Neri was officially included in the Rete dei Cammini del Lazio (RCL), the network of historical, religious and cultural routes established by the Regione Lazio to promote slow and sustainable tourism. The route, covered by the saint between 1532 and 1534, consists today of an extraordinary 120-kilometre journey divided into seven stages between Montecassino and the Montagna Spaccata in Gaeta, the two most visited religious sites in southern Lazio. The trail offers impressive landscapes, rivers, mountains, coasts, a multitude of roads and trails and very ancient historical villages, as well as exceptional food and wine specialties. With the Way of St. Filippo Neri, the number of routes in the Rete dei Cammini del Lazio (RCL) has risen to seven: St. Francis Way, the Northern Via Francigena, the Southern Via Francigena, Via Amerina, the Natural Parks Trail, and the St. Benedict route.
The Network aims to promote slow and sustainable tourism while supporting the local economy, contrasting the depopulation of inland areas. The network is supported by a public register available on the website of the Regione Lazio, which includes technical and descriptive data for each route.
