The Giro d’Italia Returns to Rome and Formia

On Sunday, May 31, Rome will host the grand finale of the 2026 Giro d’Italia for the fourth consecutive year. The stage 21 will start from Ostia, continue along the coast, and then conclude with an itinerary through the most famous and historic sites, with a parade at the Imperial Forums and the finish at the Circus Maximus.

This renowned event will begin on May 8, 2026, and will cover a total of 3,468 km, crossing sixteen Italian regions. On Friday, May 15, before the grand finale in Rome, the Corsa Rosa will enter Lazio in the southern Pontine and Ciociaria regions.

Stage 7, the longest one, will start from Formia, where the Giro d’Italia returns after 52 years. From here, it will continue along the Riviera d’Ulisse and the ancient Regina Viarum, the Appian Way, to reach, following the Via Flacca, Itri, Fondi, Sperlonga, and Gaeta. The riders will then continue towards Spigno Saturnia and Minturno, crossing the villages of Ausonia, Castelnuovo Parano, Esperia, San Giorgio a Liri, Pignataro Interamna, and Sant’Apollinare in the province of Frosinone. Finally, the competition will head towards Molise and the Majella massif in Abruzzo, covering a total of 246 km.

The initiative will be an excellent opportunity to showcase the enchanting landscapes of Lazio and the countless wonders of the Eternal City, an unmissable experience for residents, tourists, and sport lovers.
