A via climbing of over 400 metres has been inaugurated in Mompeo, in the wild, pristine nature of the Sabina Park.
It will make possible for experienced and well-equipped hikers to cross a canyon that runs alongside the river, creating a spectacular loop within the Farfa Gorges Natural Monument.
The gorges are characterized by rock walls carved by the river and covered with forests of Turkey oaks, hornbeams, holm oaks, as well as a rich gallery forest of willows, poplars, alders, and hornbeams, where peregrine falcons, eagle owls, barn owls, buzzards, tawny owls, and dippers nest. This extraordinary natural habitat also preserves important historical remains: a Roman bridge along an ancient imperial road and a medieval one still connecting the two banks of the river.
The access to the climbing route is only allowed with a CE-certified personal protective equipment.
