Rieti confirms itself as one of the Italian leading sport towns. The National Sportsmanship Index 2026, issued by “Il Sole 24 Ore”, ranks Rieti first among the track and field teams, a result of the town’s strong sporting identity. This recognition is also validated by the major achievements of the many national and international athletes, who have chosen Rieti for their training and top-level competitions.

A significant example is the Tokyo Olympics gold medallist Mattia Furlani, who has been training his athletes at the “Raul Guidobaldi Stadium” in Rieti for years.

The “Guidobaldi Stadium” is also renowned in Europe thanks to the numerous successes of the “Studentesca Rieti Andrea Milardi”, one of the top youth athletics clubs in Europe.
Also noteworthy are the numerous high-profile national and international sporting events held annually here, such as the recent 2026 European Under-18 Championships, which attracted thousands of visitors, athletes, coaches, delegations, support staff, and fans from all over Europe.
In addition, Rieti boasts a legendary basketball team, as well as significant achievements in other sports. The National Sportsmanship Index 2026 ranks it 26th in basketball, 33rd in winter sports, 15th in women’s sports, 34th in amateur sports, and 36th in individual sports, achievements mainly due to the successful track and field scene.
