3 Towns in Lazio compete for the Title of Capital of Culture 2029

Cassino, the Consortium of the Castelli Romani, and Tivoli are officially in the running for the title of Italian Capital of Culture 2029.

16 candidate towns have submitted to the Ministry of Culture a one-year project, with a financial plan and a timeline, in order to ensure the initiative’s sustainability.

The programmes submitted by the three candidates are entitled “Ora, Labora, Lege. Il Metodo della Cultura”, presented by the town of Cassino, “Castelli Romani, Castelli Domani” by the Unione dei Comuni dei Castelli Romani, and “La cultura in gioco”, by the town of Tivoli. The projects will be evaluated by a committee of seven experts in the fields of culture, art, and territorial development. By December 16, 2026, ten finalists will be selected to attend a public hearing, which will take place by March 10, 2027. During the auditioning, they will present their projects and answer the questions from the jury. The winner will be announced by March 25, 2027.
