Ciampino enjoys a very strategic geographical position, just off the ring road, Grande Raccordo Anulare, just 10 km south of the centre of Rome, on the Appian Way leading directly to the Castelli Romani.

The territory of Ciampino is almost adjacent to the ancient Appian Way, and in Roman times was home to farms and rustic villas, the most famous being that of Quinto Voconio Pollione, dating back to the 2nd century AD.

From Ciampino, the surrounding mountains can be reached in a few minutes, and the beaches on the Roman coast in less than half an hour.

The G. Pastine airport makes the town an important point of passage for national and international tourism.

A significant cultural contribution is made by the Municipal Gallery of Contemporary Art, which lends itself to exhibitions of large works and the creation of special installations, thus enhancing the work of numerous contemporary artists.

Worth visiting is the Church of the Sacro Cuore di Gesù, patron saint of Ciampino, facing the Piazza della Pace.

Also worth seeing is the monument commemorating those fallen in all wars, created by the artist Antonio Quaranta.

Named after Pier Paolo Pasolini, who taught in the town, is the Municipal Library which houses special collections on flight and Pasolini himself. With its 13 thousand volumes, it is part of the SBCR, the Library System that connects all of the Castelli Romani area.

The traditional gastronomy is varied and rich, related to Roman cuisine and that of the Castelli area: carbonara, tripe, porchetta, coratella (giblets) with artichokes, breaded and fried lamb ribs, pincinelle pasta, cellitti pasta, stewed broccoli, and artichokes roasted in coals.
