The municipality of Marano Equo, belonging to the mountain community of Aniene, is a small jewel enclosed between Mount Ruffi and a steep slope descending to the Aniene Valley.
The village owes its name to the Equi, an ancient people who before the Roman conquest lived in the Aniene valley.
This is an area very rich in water, suffice it to say that at the foot of the existing medieval town water flowed from an infinite number of springs, the most important of which was the Acqua Marcia.
Marano Equo borders with other small localities of this valley that are also rich in charm and history; to the north with Arsoli and Roviano, to the east with Cervara di Roma and Agosta, to the south with Rocca Canterano, to the west with Anticoli Corrado.
Not to be missed are the Church of San Biagio, the Church of S. Maria della Pietà and the Sanctuary of the Madonna della Quercia, a great spiritual reference point for the entire Maranese community. A suggestive panorama will make your visit to this sanctuary even more fascinating.
Among the most important events taking place during the year are the Feast of the Patron Saint San Biagio on February 3 and the Polenta Festival on the last Sunday of February. The month of August is packed with festivals and gives you a chance to enjoy the finest delicacies of the Marano territory, the Feast of the Madonna della Neve, the Festival of the Marano Bean, the “Sagne” Festival and the Bruschetta Festival.
