Serrone is nicknamed the “paragliding paradise” at the foot of Mount Scalambra.
Although important remains of rustic villas from the Roman imperial age have been found in the area, it was certainly previously inhabited by the Ernici.
On a rocky ridge you can visit the hermitage of San Michele Arcangelo, at 1100 metres, a magical place almost set in the rock and an excellent rest area for those who, following the paths, want to climb the Scalambra on foot.
The historic centre is a stone jewel, with narrow streets, ramps and stairways that cross the village allowing you to enjoy the view of the Sacco River valley and admire the landscape rich in vines and olive trees. Only a few ruins remain of the ancient fortress.
Among the treasures of the village, the Church, the Museo dei Costumi, the Fortress, and the little shops where the best wines are displayed and where you can buy tasty products.
Walking through the town, it is also possible to see the original building by the architect Fuksas in Paliano.
Worth visiting are the Church of San Quirico (12th century), the Church of San Pietro Apostolo, the Hermitage of San Michele, the Sanctuary of the Madonna della Pace, the ruins of the Rocca dei Colonna, and the Cyclopean Walls of Lesca.
Serrone is famous for being the “paragliding paradise”. From its height of 738 metres, it is in fact an ideal destination for the many enthusiasts of this sport.

Life-size ethnographic nativity scene in Serrone
The Serrone Ethnographic Nativity Scene is extremely impressive. Along the alleys of the historic centre of Serrone, over 100 life-size statues of the Nativity scene stand out in typical Ciociaria clothes. It is the longest and most figurative life-size Ethnographic Nativity scene in Lazio, on display from December 8 to January 6, awaiting the arrival of the Three Kings.
Typical local dishes are frascatelli, very thick pasta made with water and flour, patacche with lamb or truffle, chicken Serronese style and pizza screscita.
Among the desserts, we can taste the Serronese ciambella, with a unique anise flavour.
The local Cesanese wine is excellent.
