Bolsena is the only town in Lazio, among the twenty three Italian municipalities, which submitted their candidacy for the title of “Capitale Italiana dell’Arte Contemporanea 2026, awarded for the first time this year by the “Direzione Generale Creatività Contemporanea del Ministero della Cultura”.
The Bolsena Project, called “Fanum”, focuses on a rich historical and spiritual heritage, which includes the town Etruscan origins, the Via Francigena, the cult of Santa Cristina, the sacred places of the Corpus Domini, as well as its natural beauties and charming lake. Bolsena, highly appreciated also by international tourists, has been included by Forbes in the “List of the Ten most beautiful Villages in Europe”.
By September 15, 2024, the jury will examine all the projects, and then select a maximum of five municipalities, which will be invited to public hearings. By October 30, 2024, the most suitable candidacy will be proposed to the Minister of Culture. The winner will receive one million euros to carry out the planned activities.
