The celebrations for the 2026 edition of the historic Carnival in Civita Castellana, the Dancing City, have just begun. On Saturday, January 17th, as per tradition, O’ Puccio 2026, the King of the Carnival, was unveiled in Piazza Matteotti. This allegorical figure is created every year thanks to a shared process involving the Municipality of Civita Castellana, the Fondazione Carnevale Civitonico and the Liceo Artistico Ulderico Midossi. The theme for 2026, chosen by twenty-seven students, is Art. O’Puccio, in fact, is characterized by an explosion of colours, blue hair, a mask over his eyes, oversized hands and mouth, and extravagant fluo clothes. During the event, the order of the allegorical floats and masked groups was drawn and the cheerful folk band “La Rustica” officially kicked off the 2026 Carnival celebrations. The programme continues with the Children’s Carnival on Fat Thursday, February 12th, and the three Gala Parades on February 8th, 15th, and 17th, which will start from Via Enrico Minio.
The grand finale is scheduled for Fat Tuesday, February 17th, with the award ceremony for the winning floats and the traditional burning of O’ Puccio in Piazza Matteotti.
