Guidonia Montecelio is located just 22 Km northeast of Rome, very close to Tivoli and the treasures of Villa Gregoriana, Villa D’Este and Villa Adriana.
The origins of the town date back to the village of Montecelio and it was only during the Fascist era that it was given its current name.
Well worth a visit are the Church of San Giovanni Evangelista, built in the 18th century on the remains of the more ancient San Giovanni in Forcella.
Dominating the town like a sanctuary is the Church of Santa Maria di Loreto, with a single nave, where there is an original representation of the Madonna, captured as she shows the Child to protect the city, which we see on her right, and the airport symbolized by some airplanes and a hangar on her left.
In the historic centre we find Palazzo Cesi, built around 1500, and the tower, Torre Littoria, which, with its massive size, recalls the medieval towers.
Within the municipality’s territory there is also a protected area, ideal for a stroll in the woods and steeping yourself in the past at the Inviolata Archaeological Park.
The Park, which is on the border with the Municipality of Guidonia, has a mixture of waterways and woods that form tunnels.
