The municipality of Labico is one of the 17 municipalities belonging to the Prenestina and Lepini Mountains Area, situated between the Aniene Valley and the Alban Hills. We are speaking of an area of great historical and monumental interest due to the presence of remains dating to the times of the Volscians and the Romans, as well as medieval and Renaissance castles and palaces.
A town whose origins are ancient, in fact, the earliest records, dating back to the 8th century, refer to it with the name of Fundum Longoienianum.
Walking through the historic centre you can admire the remains of two towers of the Lugnano Castle, the Church of Sant’Andrea Apostolo, the “Arnari” complex and, last but not least, Palazzo Giuliani.
If at the end of your visit you would like to taste the local delicacies, you should try the bean and bread soup, the pea soup, the “frascatelli” pasta, the “pagnottu” polenta pizza with raisins and lard crisps, as well as the polenta pizza with radish greens.
Among the festivities celebrated during the year we must certainly mention the Feast of San Rocco, which takes place on the last Sunday of August with a procession in which the Saint is carried through the streets of the town amidst a large crowd of faithful followers.
