A small town in the province of Rome, about 60 km from the capital. Perched on a spur at 575 m above sea level, Percile retains the characteristic appearance of medieval village with stone houses.

It is located in a mostly mountainous area, with an altitude that varies from 600 to 1000 m above sea level. It is also part of the Parco dei Monti Lucretili, rich in natural environments, from the beech forests of the higher areas to the typical Mediterranean vegetation and the plains.
A natural jewel of the area are the so-called Lagustelli di Percile, at the foot of Colle Faieta, in a limestone area with geological karst phenomena, as well as typical funnel-shaped depressions, filled mostly with water, and other formations such as caves and limestone pavements.

The two lakes are within walking distance from each other, in two basins, one directly North of the other. The smallest, called Marraone, is about 20 m lower the larger lake, known as Fraturno, and the volume of water contained therein is now reduced to such a small amount that it dries up completely in particularly arid summers.
The volume of water in the larger lake, however, is not particularly prone to seasonal changes.

The place is particularly charming and offers the visitor the pleasure of a gentle and peaceful landscape. Near the lakes lies the medieval Rovine Morella site, with the remains of Castel del Lago, one of the fortified Roman “castra” of the Monti Lucretili.
