Surrounded by the wooded Lucretili Mountains, Roccagiovine is the ideal place for taking a break from the chaos of the city while admiring the gigantic, centuries-old chestnut trees that characterize the whole natural area surrounding the town, also fine for trekking.

There are those, instead, who will love to laze in good company in the town’s main square dedicated to the goddess Vacuna, where there is a fountain, built in the 19th century, with four spouts in the shape of a dog’s head … it’s a matter of personal taste but, in any case, Roccagiovine welcomes you all!

Because of its internal position, Roccagiovine, which stands on a spur overlooking the Valley of the Torrente Licenza is one of the most important entrances to the heart of the Lucretili Mountains Regional Park.

For those who prefer to spend their time within the walls of the village, the Castello dei del Gallo, the Church of the Flagellanti, with its 18th-century frescoes, and the Church of Santa Maria delle Case are the best choice.

Absolutely unmissable is the beautiful 15th-century Orsin Nymphaeum, near Horace’s Villa, another place demanding a visit. The water of the Nymphaeum gushes out at a height of three metres from an architectural backdrop with small columns on the sides and a vaulted tympanum, dropping into a semi-circular basin.

Fettuccine egg noodles, gnocchi, spelt “sagne” and polenta are typical, not-to-be-missed local specialties.
