The municipality of Roccasecca dei Volsci, just over 100 km from the capital, stands on a spur of Mount Curio, with the Amaseno River below.

Its territory is bounded on the east by Mount Altino (821 m.), south by Mount Curio (616 m.), to the west by Serre (711 m.) and the north by the Ammaseno Valley. There are abundant woods and pastures; on the north-eastern side you find holm oak, chestnut, hornbeam and elm.

Considered the Land of the Popes, initially it belonged to the Pontifical State, then it was home to the oldest aristocratic families of the time, the Counts of Ceccano, the Carafa, the Massimo, and the Gabrielli.

The historical centre preserves an intact medieval core, with narrow streets that wind in concentric circles to the heart of the town, represented by Piazza Umberto I overlooked by the Church of Santa Maria Assunta and the Baronial Castle, an imposing mid-17th-century building. In the territory are also remains from the Roman era, such as the San Lorenzo aqueduct.

On the top of the village stands the classical style temple of San Raffaele, a true architectural jewel erected in 1659 by Cardinal Camillo II during his exile, restored in 1963 and subject to subsequent renovations. It hosts a cycle of frescoes attributed to the school of Dominichino.

In the peripheral area we find the Church of Santa Croce, the Condotto del Diavolo (Devil’s Channel) and the circular temple of the Madonna della Pace, in Bramante style, located at the foot of the hill and accessible by way of stairs.

Olive oil, olives and cheeses are typical local products, in addition to goat and lamb breeding.
