Not only Blue and Orange Flags, Lazio also boasts 10 Green Flags, the award for the most welcoming child friendly beaches. Around 3,000 paediatricians evaluated the judging criteria. The beaches must be comfortable with enough room between the umbrellas for children to play, clean, shallow water to let them safely swim, , constant supervision of a lifeguard, equipment, catering facilities and quiet playing areas. Ten towns in Lazio received the prize: Anzio (Rome), Formia (Latina), Gaeta (Latina), Lido di Latina (Latina), Montalto di Castro (Viterbo), Sabaudia (Latina), San Felice Circeo (Latina), Sperlonga (Latina), Terracina (Latina) and Ventotene – Cala Nave (Latina).
An excellent result for Lazio, if compared to the overall figures: 147 Green Flags awarded in Italy and 8 abroad.
