In the heart of Tuscia near Viterbo, about 80 km from Rome, the City of the Popes, is one of the largest terme or thermal bath areas in Italy. This is the ideal place if you are looking for a bit of relaxation!

We are talking about an area with numerous hot springs and pools, many of them free and well worth a dip all year-round, thanks to the high temperatures of the water. Just imagine, they can reach 65 degrees Celsius!

At 2.5 km from Viterbo are the pools, Piscine Carletti, a free area whose waters reach a temperature of 58°C. A destination for many tourists and locals, there is no night lighting or services here.

Between the Martana road and the Strada Castiglione at 8 km from the Tuscia capitol are the Thermal springs of Bagnaccio. These are free as well but run by an association that requires an entry card. Card holders can use the toilet and parking facilities. The membership card is not mandatory and does not preclude access to the area. There are various hot springs with water temperatures ranging from 23 to 65 degrees C.

Along the Strada Bulicame are the Bulicame hot springs, a spring with two pools, with free entry but no services. The available parking area is small and unguarded.

The last hot springs with free admission that we recommend are the Terme delle Masse di San Sisto along the Cassia Sud in the locality of Paliano. There are two pools, one with hot water and one with water at 18°C. In this area there are toilets, a garden and changing cabins. Except for some periods when the pools must be cleaned, there is even night swimming!
