The Archaeological Box of the Domus Aventino

The extraordinary Archaeological Box of the Domus Aventino in Piazza Albania, on the slopes of Mount Aventine in Rome, is now accessible to the public, thanks to a project born from the collaboration between the “Soprintendenza Speciale di Roma” and the  “BNP Paribas Real Estate”.

The Domus, discovered during the renovation works of an old building in the Aventine district, underwent several construction phases. Six uncommon layers of flooring were brought to life, with rich mosaics dating back from the late first century BC to the Antonine era (150-175 AD). The Archaeological Box was designed to relocate and reposition the Domus walls and mosaics. Visitors will be able to experience an unforgettable journey into the Ancient Roman splendour, through a series of video mappings and sounds, accompanied by the narration of the renowned journalist Piero Angela.

The Archaeological Box is visitable on the first, second, third and fourth Saturday of the month, but the opening times may vary during the summer season. For reservations and tickets, please, visit the dedicated website.
