On June 14,15 and 16, 2024 the Giornate Europee dell’Archeologia will be once again celebrated. Special openings, itineraries and workshops for children, experimental archaeology and guided tours will keep alive the memory of the populations who have left a permanent mark on history, a great event for the lovers of ancient civilizations.
On this occasion, the DMO Borghi Etruschi will organize two special events for adults and children, an immersive experience into the Ancient Roman and Etruscan habits: a re-enactment at the ancient Roman colony of Castrum Novum (third century BC.- fifth century AD), which will start from Santa Marinella on Saturday, June 15 from 10am to 12pm, and a visit to the historic centre of the town, its seafront and the small port. The festival continues in the afternoon with the performance of the legionaries and educational workshops. Dance shows in Roman costumes are also scheduled on Sunday, June 16, from 4pm to 8pm. All activities are free.
The initiative by the “DMO Borghi Etruschi” will extend, on Saturday, June 15 and Sunday June 16 to the Villaggio Etrusco Pagus in Castel Sant’Elia, a dive into the Etruscan past. The approximately 2000 square metre Village is, in fact, a faithful reconstruction of an Etruscan settlement from the 8th-7th century BC. Here visitors will be able to walk among Etruscan huts, admire the furnishings, the ancient musical instruments and the finely handcrafted ceramics and witness the melting of metals. For visiting conditions, please visit the website borghietruschi.com.
Also this year, the Associazione Archeoclub di Terracina participates in the European Archaeology Days by offering cultural visits to the stretch of the Via Appia Antica in the Terracina area and its monuments.
