The Nature Cycle: The wonders of the Parks of Southern Lazio

One of the many reasons to choose Lazio as a holiday destination is to also fully enjoy the lush natural environment of its Regional Parks and of the Circeo National Park.

An unmissable experience is to leave your car, grab a bicycle and take a leisurely ride through the woodlands and forests. You can delight in breathing in the scent of resin, of the leaves and of the thick colourful undergrowth, dotted with the dabbled sunlight that filters through the trees.

Several easy itineraries over level land have been designed within the Circeo National Park. The easy and short trails are the Nature Trail at the Sabaudia Visitors’ Centre and the Lestra Cocuzza trail. The slightly more difficult and a longer ones are the Foresta Demaniale Trail and the trail that runs through the Verdesca Marshes.

A mountain biking paradise, the Bike Park is a project developed by the Monti Aurunci Regional Park. It is a 22-kilometre circuit of various difficulties equipped with signs that children, teens and adults alike can easily comprehend.

Another very interesting project is the K-Bike, implemented by the Riviera di Ulisse Regional Park. It is a special wheelchair designed for rough terrains. Manoeuvred by two persons, it allows disabled individuals to take part in excursions along the dirt roads of natural and mountain areas in general. In the Lazio region, the Italian Alpine Club (CAI) has created a network of trails especially geared to meet the needs of the disabled.
