The sea resort town of Formia is situated centrally on the Gulf of Gaeta and along the ancient Tyhrrenian route, the Appian Way. It has been known ever since the Roman era for its attractive setting and mild climate. Bearing witness to this are the remains of the Roman villas of Mamurra and Mecenate, the small ports of Caposele and Giànola, the aqueduct and the mausoleums (tomb of Cicero).

Formia overlooks the Tyhrrenian Sea and offers lovely views over an intense blue sea. The long sandy beaches include the especially beautiful San Janni, Vindicio and Giànola. All have facilities: entertainment for children, windsurf school, eateries and beach chair and umbrella rental.
