The Southern Francigena joins “LeVie del Bike”

During the Italian Bike Festival 2024, that took place from September 13 to 15, 2024 in Misano Adriatico, Lazio introduced the itinerary Francigena del Sud, facciamola in bici”.

The project, also presented by other Italian regions, is part of “Le Vie del Bike”, an initiative launched by the Ministero del Turismo – Viaggio italiano, to create itineraries and routes for the enthusiasts of cycle tourism, willing to explore, from north to south, the best Italian destinations.

The proposal of Lazio, together with Campania and Puglia, consists in a long varied cycling trail in Lazio of about 250 km, crossing places of history, art and culture in unique, breathtaking settings.

The itinerary starts in Rome and continues through the Via Appia Antica, reaching the lakes of Albano and the area of the Castelli Romani, with its beautiful villages, such as  NemiCastel Gandolfo and Ariccia. The route extends to Lepini Mountains, in the province of Latina, passing by Sermoneta, Sezze and the magnificent Abbey of Fossanova in Priverno. It then progresses towards the sea, reaching Terracina, Fondi, Itri Gaeta Formia and Minturno, at the border between Lazio and Campania, by the Bridge Real Ferdinando II di Borbone over the Garigliano River.

The participants will also be able to experience the many food and wine traditions and taste local specialities like the Tiella from Gaeta or typical products such as extra virgin olive oil and buffalo mozzarella.
