The Tourism of the Roots is getting increasingly important in Lazio, according to the data emerged during the meeting “Il turismo delle radici, il Lazio si racconta”. The project, carried out by Regione Lazio and promoted by the “Ministero degli Affari Esteri e della Cooperazione Internazionale” (MAECI), will encourage Italian descendants, mainly of second and third generation, to rediscover their origins.
This kind of tourism particularly concerns the Lazio Region and its significant history of emigration.
The villages and towns involved, often away from traditional tourist circuits, are being increasingly sought after, thanks to these visitors in search of their family roots. Regione Lazio enhanced this initiative with a targeted tourist offer, a mapping of the emigration areas, and the collection of audiovisual contents and materials.
Regione Lazio also participated at international meetings, dedicated to Italians all over the world, in Toronto, Buenos Aires, Melbourne, and New York. The initiative, aimed at the descendants of the twentieth-century emigrants, focused on the discovery of their places of origin, and their extraordinary historical, cultural and naturalistic heritage.
