From April 5 to June 8, 2025, the “Ultrasky” exhibition will simultaneously take place at the “Archaeological Museums of Priverno” and at the “Gardens of Ninfa”, a fascinating journey into the Egyptian Blue, the extraordinary thousand-year-old pigment, rediscovered by contemporary artists and innovative technologies.
Egyptian Blue was the first artificial colour to be used over 5000 years ago and, after alternating fortunes over the centuries, it received great attention in recent years by the international scientific community for its potential applications in various fields, from energy production to medicine and sensor systems. On display, original works by nine contemporary artists, who reinterpreted the beauty and versatility of this unique pigment: Viola Alpi (fashion), the CaCO3 Collective (modern mosaic), Andrea Chidichimo (painting), Stefano Conticelli (design and installations), Giuliano Giuman (glass), Kamilia Kard (digital art), Matteo Peducci (sculpture), Erica Tamborini (ceramics and plastic arts) and Franco Vitelli (Cosmatesque inlay).
During this immersive experience, which combines the aesthetics of art with the rigor of science, the Egyptian Blue infrared light will allow visitors, thanks to latest-generation viewers, to closely reveal the hidden aspects of the various works of art.
The event, developed by “BLUENET”, the most important global network of Egyptian-blue scholars, is sponsored by the “Accademia dei Lincei” and organized by “Adamantio srl – Science in Conservation”. The main sponsor Eni S.p.A., the curators Rolando Bellini,(art critic) and Marco Nicola (technologist), as well as the students from the “Liceo Antonio Sgamellotti” also contributed to this ambitious project.
