From November 27, 2024 to January 27, 2025, on the occasion of Jubilee, the famous painting “The White Crucifixion” by Marc Chagall will be exhibited in the new space of the “Museo del Corso – Polo Museale di Palazzo Cipolla” in Rome. It will be possible to admire it for free every day from 10.00 to 20.00.
The symbols and iconic images in the work, created by the Belarusian painter of Jewish origin in 1938, represent the suffering of the Jewish people during the persecution by the German Nazi.
At the centre of the painting, a large crucified Christ wearing a Jewish Tallit dominates a scene of death, violence and destruction.
The masterpiece, one of Pope Francis’ favourite paintings, will arrive in Rome from “The Art Institute of Chicago” and will be displayed as a universal remainder of all the suffering and persecution inflicted all over the world.
