Held every year, at Villa Celimontana, in the third week of September, this Festival unites two great passions: reading and traveling, two ways to discover worlds that take us away from our everyday lives. Taking new roads puts us in touch with the world, and, in a mysterious way, brings us back to the centre of ourselves. As Calvino says in “The Invisible Cities”, “Not only do you enjoy the seven or seventy wonders of a city, but the answer to your question”.
This year’s program is packed with meetings, exhibitions, awards, performances, shows, screenings, workshops, walks, conferences, and readings. What matters is talking about the human being through different forms of narration. The journey, in fact, is not only about movement through space and time but how we change when we encounter different places and cultures. Three strong themes emerge: migrations, islands, explorations, where the landing is sometimes fleeing in search of a better life, or the strong desire to find a place that understands us. There are geographies of the soul and we seek them all through our lives.
All the arts are part of this event: literature, journalism, cinema, photography, television, theatre, music and comics, all occasions for discovery, encounter, listening, knowledge, and tolerance.
