If you are in search of emotions, do not miss the amazing Hanami in Rome, the blossoming of cherry trees. Peek into the beautiful water features at the Laghetto dell’Eur or visit the Botanical Garden of the “Università La Sapienza di Roma. Admire the small garden of the Japanese Cultural Institute, the first of its kind in Italy, designed by the landscape architect Ken Nakajiama in the Sen’en style, widespread in Japan between 1500 and 1600.

In Japanese culture, the flowering of trees and the arrival of spring are very important. According to tradition, Sakura (cherry trees), blooming between the end of March and the end of April, allow us to rediscover noble virtues such as courage, loyalty and purity, the values of the Samurai.

Hanami can also be admired in the Appia Antica Park. The ephemeral beauty of the cherry blossom reveals its fragility when, still at its maximum splendour, it detaches from the peduncles and falls, to be born again. Let us take a walk in the Appia Antica Park and slow down to contemplate the unmissable cherry blossoms!

If you don’t have a green thumb, you can learn from the gardeners, who lovingly take care of thousands of roses. Hopeless romantics can admire the Vacunae Rosae, the two-hectare garden in Roccantica, hosting over 4,500 different species of roses. It is one of the most impressive rose gardens in the world in terms of variety and size, planned to achieve the elevation of the spirit.

The naturally mystical medieval village of Roccantica in Sabina is immersed in the woods of the Goddess Vacuna, “La Tacita”, as defined by Plutarch. Vacunae Rosae is unique in its layout, lying on sloping terrain in a sort of natural cavea in the shape of an angel wing. You can book a visit to the rose garden on weekends in May.

While it is true that “there is no rose without thorns”, it is worth getting inebriated by the 1,100 varieties of roses in the Municipal Rose Garden of Rome on the Aventine Hill, just above the Circus Maximus, facing the imposing, majestic remains of the Palatine, a site dedicated to flowers since the third century BC. Already Tacitus in the Annales described the temple of the Goddess Flora, whose celebrations, the Floralia, took place in the Circus Maximus in spring.

White, red, pink, yellow, blue, even black, green, and two-coloured, tiny or giant, new and old, all coming from every corner of the world, the roses of the Eternal City can be admired in their maximum splendour from April 21 until the end of May.

Bolsena VT FESTA DELLE ORTENSIE rosa

In Bolsena, along the shores of the largest volcanic lake in Europe, you will enjoy the view of the splendid hydrangeas. In mid-June, the arrival of summer is celebrated with the unstoppable explosion of these oriental shrubs in their typically white, pink, and blue colours.

We reach the Parco Naturale Regionale dei Castelli Romani to marvel at the spring orchids and daffodils in bloom between the lakes of Nemi and Albano. 25 species of charming orchids adorn the park between May and June, and one of them even in autumn. Almost 30,000 species exist in the world, and, in Italy, around 200, in different shapes, colours and scents. Monte Porzio Catone is the Town of Orchids, which we can find in the wild or on display in the village during “Orchidee dal Mondo”, the international event held in 2025 from April 11 to April 13.

In Rocca Priora, among the fountains and alleys, you will be fascinated by strokes of white daffodils. With their unmistakable scent, they symbolized the afterlife for the Ancient Romans, while in China they are associated with luck. In Rocca Priora, daffodils grow spontaneously and have been celebrated for eighty years in May, when they appear everywhere, even on the windowsills.

While waiting for the lavender to bloom, let us enjoy these floral paintings in Lazio!
