Its construction began around 300 BC, and, throughout history, it has been an economic and cultural crossroads towards the Mediterranean and the Eastern civilizations.
The recognition as a UNESCO World Heritage Site is of great importance for the enhancement and safeguarding of this precious Route, which preserves spectacular remains of imperial villas and aqueducts.
