Trevi nel Lazio crossed by the Cammino di San Benedetto, surrounds the ancient Rocca, a strategic fortress on the upper Valley of the Aniene River. The Benedictine female monastery, where Saint Benedict took refuge in the sixth century, is one of the twelve existing in the Aniene Valley.

Arco di Trevi
The ancient Roman name of the village is Treba Augusta, but its origins are much older. It was inhabited by the Equi, an ancient population with a rich culture, but, after the war with Rome, Trevi became a Roman colony. Among the oldest monuments, the Arco di Trevi stands out. After one hour walk along the border with Guarcino, we will come across this ancient Roman aqueduct surrounded by nature. It was built among the beech forests of the Arcinazzo Plateaus, between the third and second centuries B.C., to separate the lands of the Equi and the Ernici.

Arcinazzo Plateaus
The Arcinazzo Plateaus, at around 900 m above sea level, is rich in woods and full of surprises. Excavations have brought to light the structure of the Trajan’s Villa, and, in the historic centre of the town, remains of mosaics.

Waterfall in Comunacque
Not to be missed is the Trevi Waterfall in Comunacque, sparkling in the green of the Simbruini Mountains among high rocky walls, perfect for free-climbing, and woods full of strawberries, blueberries, raspberries and mushrooms. The “King of the Forest” is the Aniene River, a watercolour painting of vibrant emotions from green to blue, overwhelmed by the white roar of the Trevi Waterfall.

Trevi nel Lazio
Let us take a walk throughout the burg of Trevi nel Lazio and marvel at the ancient Caetani Castle. Probably built in the year 1000, it passed, in 1200, from the Popes to the De Rubeis Family, and then to Pietro Caetani. With the Caetani Family, the Castle reached its maximum splendour, until it returned to the Church, at the end of the 1400s. At the end of the 1700s, houses piled up by the Castle, until they incorporated part of it. Neglected in 1900, it underwent a long restoration in 1984, and can be visited today.
Trevi nel Lazio conquered the Orange Flag, a prestigious recognition awarded by the Italian Touring Club for the quality of tourism-environmental development.
