The restoration works of the Gardens of Villa Lante in Bagnaia have been carried out thanks to the funds of the PNRR, a Programme to enhance the Identity of Historic Sites, Parks, and Gardens. The innovative conservation project combined research, history, and biodiversity and restored the Villa’s Italian Gardens, among the most beautiful ones in the world, its ancient Renaissance splendour.
The interventions consisted in the care of 1,350 trees, hedges, lawns, and undergrowth, the redefinition of the entrance area, and the planting of the Platanus Orientalis first specimens. They also concerned all the fountains and several water basins in peperino stone, staircases, balustrades, and pedestals. These works coincided with the restoration of the systems supplying water to the small waterfalls and the hidden, deceptive jets.
Of particular importance has been the restoring of the Quadrato Garden, where the replacement of a few box trees brought to light twelve original fountains commissioned by Cardinal Gambara.
Finally, a new low-impact lighting system also allows evening visits, which will make it possible to relive a special ancient atmosphere.
