In Rome, this is by far the greatest market for knick-knacks, winding like a long snake from Via Portuense to Via Ippolito Nievo, as far as Viale Trastevere and, obviously, the piazza from which it takes its name, Piazza di Porta Portese.

Baubles, trinkets and costume jewellery, antiques and modern items, extravagant garments and accessories are the life of what may be the most popular market for Romans and tourists, the market that has inspired songs like “Porta Portese” by Claudio Baglioni, poems, and films like “Bicycle Thieves” and “Sciuscià”.

Born in the post-war period as the new site for the black market, Porta Portese is the most famous “Sunday market” in Italy, where you can truly find anything!
