Rocca Massima is about 70 km. from Rome and about 30 km. from Latina and stands on a hill of 746 m. in the Lepini Mountains chain, thus being the highest municipality in the province of Latina.
The road that leads to this small-town climbs around the cone of the hill, among forests of holm oaks and oaks which give the whole area great value from a naturalistic and environmental point of view, with an increasingly wider view towards Velletri and the Pontine Plain.
The town has origins dating back to the 7th century. A.D. and, in medieval times, the Annibaldi family built the fortress and defences.
Rocca Massima is worth visiting for its cool, sparkling climate and the tranquillity of the town, which make it an ideal place for a relaxing and regenerating summer holiday, away from the crowds and bustling life of the most important holiday centres.
But if you are looking for strong emotions, remember that, since 2015, the longest “Flying in the sky” in the world, the “angel’s flight”, has been operating. The system consists of a 2,250 m long steel cable, which, from a height of 780 meters, leads the most daring to an olive grove located 400 meters below at a speed of 150 km!
The good local cuisine, made of simple dishes and products from the garden and sheep farming, together with the traditional popular festivals and historical re-enactments make the stay even more pleasant.
