The municipality of Amaseno is located in the centre of a fertile valley in Ciociaria, carved by a river of the same name. The 9th-century village is surrounded by the woods of the Ausoni and Lepini mountains, green pastures and white cliffs.

The village of Amaseno is famous for its more than thirty springs of drinking water and buffalo breeding. Mozzarella, ricottine and caciocavalli made with buffalo milk are a must. In addition, the typical dishes made with buffalo meat and derivatives, including buffalo stew cooked in wine, are delicious.

The old town is surrounded by turret walls with five town gates. It is a maze of alleys marked by portals, mullioned windows with two lights and noble coats of arms. At the ends are the Churches of Santa Maria and San Pietro e Paolo, while the Rocca Castri stands out on the highest part of the hill.

In Piazza della Vittoria is the Collegiata Santa Maria Assunta, a Cistercian church from 1177 that has become a national monument. Inside the Collegiata are countless art treasures, such as the 13th-century stone pulpit created by G. Pisano, and the Blood of Saint Lawrence the Martyr, a prodigious relic that is melted on the feast of the saint.

Also not to be missed in Amaseno are the Sanctuary of Auricola rich in frescoes, the ruins of the Church of Sant’Angelo and the Bridge of Sant’Aneglio dating from 314 BC. In the Church of the Annunziata, ‘Gli amici del Presepe’ perform a famous Animated Nativity scene every year.

The Amaseno Marching Band is an international award-winning local band. The band has jazz, rock and Latin American music influences in its repertoire.
