After long redevelopment works, the historic Capannelle racetrack will reopen to the public on Sunday, September 20, 2026, to celebrate its first 100 years of history, allowing a large crowd of horse-racing lovers to rediscover this historical, significant venue. The event recalls the 1926 inauguration of the track and the grandstand designed by the architect Paolo Vietti Violi. The reopening will also represent an opportunity to explain the new plan for this glorious racecourse. The restauration works of the Roman hippodrome at the foot of the Monti Albani, that faces the ruins of the Claudian Aqueduct and the Villa of Lucrezia Romana, have involved the tracks, the main grandstand, the Club House, and the areas designated for the operators and the public. Particular attention was paid to the turf track, the highlight of Capannelle. Major upgrades have been carried out on the sand tracks used for both training and racing and are also involving the trotting track and the spectators’ facilities. The initiative is the result of an institutional collaboration between Roma Capitale and the Ministero dell’Agricoltura, della Sovranità Alimentare e delle Foreste, both safeguarding the racetrack and the horse racing in the Capital.
