Formia was awarded the prize “Blue Flag 2025”, thus joining the reconfirmed top ten Lazio beaches: Gaeta, Sperlonga, Latina Mare, Sabaudia, San Felice Circeo, Fondi, Terracina and Minturno in the province of Latina, and Anzio and Trevignano Romano on Lake Bracciano in the province of Rome. This important recognition, which confirms Lazio among the most attractive sea destinations, was strongly awaited by local operators and communities, especially in view of the upcoming tourist season. As usual, the banners were assigned by various institutions, included FEE Italia “Foundation for Environmental Education”.
The award criteria consist of different factors:
- quality of the waters;
- sustainability;
- purification plants;
- waste management;
- careful collection of toxic materials;
- accessibility to the beach;
- safety;
- street furniture and bathing establishments; sustainable mobility;
- educational courses about the environment; enhancement of natural areas; accommodation facilities;
- public health services;
- environmental certification;
