Lanuvio boasts origins before those of Rome, which is just over 30 kilometers away, heir of the ancient Lanuvium.

The old town is bordered by great walls of the fifth century B.C.. Noteworthy are the elegant Fountain of the Rocks, the medieval tower and the well-preserved ancient porticoes, with alleys that creep under stone arches, in a maze of small squares and panoramic views.

In the area, several remnants of Roman villas enrich the archaeological heritage, enhanced even more by the discovery of the remains of the Sanctuary of Juno Sospita . As evidence of its history, the Lanuvino Civic Museum currently preserves a series of painted plaster fragments, representing one of the finest examples of Roman wall painting.

The medieval tower and the Sanctuary of Juno Sospita are two of the most significant places in the entire town.

The “Music Festival” of Lanuvio is a fixed appointment that attracts visitors from all over Lazio; the streets of the village come alive with music, songs, and performances.

Lanuvio’s gastronomy recalls the classic castellana tradition, with influences from typical Lazio cuisine. Pasta alla gricia, cacio e pepe, facioli co pà sotto (beans with bread below), Roman-style tripe, tagliatelle with porcini mushrooms. Don’t miss the Colli Lanuvini DOC wine.

The town is part of the beautiful Regional Park of the Castelli Romani , the ideal place for beautiful excursions in the heart of nature.
