The municipality of Lariano is found in the heart of the Castelli Romani Park, immersed in the lush greenery of the woods covering the Artemisio mountain range.
An ancient history distinguishes this small town located not far from the capital city.
During the Roman Imperial Age, it was one of the most important outposts for the defence of Rome and, in the Middle Ages, the construction of a fortified castle extended its control to an even vaster area.
Lariano is known for its famous Porcini Mushroom Festival, a must for your calendar of not-to-miss events. It takes place every year in September and attracts a large number of visitors, both local and from other areas. It features many food stands for the tasting and selling of products, accompanied by music, shows and meetings.
Among the typical products of Lariano there are homemade bread and tasty “cellitti,” long dumplings made with unleavened bread dough. But that’s not all, wine and olive oil complete the list of Lariano’s typical products.
Another not-to-be-missed attraction is certainly the Maschio dell’Ariano, better known as the Maschio di Lariano; a hill that forms part of Mount Artemisio, an ancient crater of the Latium Volcano. In the past it played a strategic role of capillary importance. Not far from Rome, the Castelli Romani Park is certainly the perfect setting for an excursion not too distant from Rome. A unique natural context, rich in itineraries and unique naturalistic species.
