The municipality of Magliano Romano is a small town not far from Rome with just over 1,000 inhabitants.
It is a small municipality with ancient origins set in an enchanting landscape. In the past, the territory of Magliano Romano was so important that first the Etruscans and later the Romans decided to take control of the whole area.
One of its most interesting sights is the Rocca, built between the 14th and 15th centuries in a dominant position over the entire town. Over the centuries it has undergone various modifications; the Palazzo is still accessible and conserves its ancient furnishings. The Church or Grotta of S. Archangelo also known as “degli Angeli” the most important of the grottoes located under the hill called “Il Casale,” was adapted by the Hermit Monks to serve as a church, probably between the 6th and 7th centuries. The grotto’s ancient frescoes were detached in 1939 and are currently conserved in the deposits of Palazzo Venezia. Another not-to-miss place is the Church of S. Giovanni, now called “dell’Assunta,” the Church of S. Giovanni Battista and the Church or Grotta of S. Anna.
There are various appointments to mark on your agenda that take place in the municipality: the Feast of Sant’Antonio Abate in January, the Sagra della Pecora mutton festival in April, the Feast of the Patron Saints S. Giovanni Battista and Santa Pudenziana in June, the Chanterelle Mushroom Festival in September and finally the Feast of Gesu’ Nazareno in October.
