The municipality of Marcellina is located on the foothills of the Lucretili Mountains. We are talking about a territory with ancient origins that underwent a radical change around 1100 with the phenomenon of fortification. Numerous “castra” arose, and it is believed that the Castrum Marcellini took its name from one of these. The Castrum Marcellini was an ancient possession of Gregorio de Marcellinnis later destroyed by the militia of the monks of San Paolo fuori le mura.

The geographical position of Marcellina was of great strategic importance on the roads leading from Montecelio and Palombara to Tivoli and San Polo.

Among the places of interest not to be missed is the Abbey of Santa Maria delle Grazie, whose origins date back to the 9th-10th century. Inside, there are numerous artistic currents. The frescoes can be traced back to two distinct periods: the first around the 11th century and the second around the 13th century.

Among the events that take place in Marcellina throughout the year is the Feast of Sant’Antonio Abate on the first Sunday after January 17th, while in May, there is the Feast of Madonna della Ginestra and the Sagra della coppietta. In September, the patronal feast dedicated to Santa Maria delle Grazie is celebrated. The Olive Festival in November is not to be missed.
