The village of Pofi is located in the province of Frosinone and is 110 km from Rome. It stands on the top of a hill, an ancient extinct volcano that makes the land particularly fertile. From here you can enjoy a 360° view of the Ciociaria and can see the many greenhouses where flowers are grown. In fact, Pofi’s economy depends on greenhouses and nurseries and every year, on the last Sunday of April, the important flower festival Festa dei Fiori takes place.

In Lupara, fossil remains of Homo herectus, dating back to the Palaeolithic, and Elephas meridionalis and Elephas anticus, dating back to prehistoric times, are now preserved at the Paleontological Museum of Pofi.

The most remarkable building in the town is the Castle, divided into three parts: the ancient court, the baronial palace and the civic tower, 36 meters high, in Romanesque style, later transformed into a bell tower. The Palazzo dei Colonna is a renovation of a large part of the ancient castle, built between two towers at the outer corners of the walls. Abandoned during the 18th century and restored at the beginning of the 19th century, it was sold by the Colonna after the First World War and today has several owners. The brickwork stands out for the funereal colour of the basalt.

You can still access the historical centre through two main gates, Porta del Melangolo and Porta dell’Ulivo.
