In Ciociaria, not far from Frosinone and less than two hours from Rome, lies this uncontaminated territory, ideal for excursions in a natural and suggestive environment.
The waters of the lake are home to a rich natural heritage; thanks to their continuous exchange they keep a nearly constant temperature, and are thus an ideal habitat for many fish species.
In the lake, in the river and along the canals the fauna is varied. But the true “star” of the reserve is a fish that lives only here, the Carpione del Fibreno, a close relative of the trout, whose biology even today remains little-known.
If you love birdwatching and wildlife photography, more than 100 species of birds live in the Reserve. The whole park is easily accessible, with a comprehensive signage. Some itineraries are equipped with huts for watching the rich permanent and migratory bird life.
The crystal clear waters of the Lake are a wonderful place for scuba diving, and in the territory you can find diving centres that organize dive trips. For the whole family, a fun outing around the lake in a pedal boat is an excellent solution for entertaining your children and showing them the species of fish that live in its depths.
In the Reserve, moreover, there are many Nature Trails equipped with information panels and walkways: you start by crossing the hill that overlooks the lake by following the Catannovo trail, and then walking up to visit the village of Posta Fibreno.
From the walk along the Carpello torrent to the Fibreno river, you can explore the reedbeds and the mysterious floating island that moves in time with the wind, while if you want to get to know the lake and its secrets, the Puzzillo Trail, which starts from the old Mill, is the ideal choice together with a visit to the small naturalistic ethnographic museum.
