Santa Marinella, about 1 hour away from Rome, can be reached along the Via Aurelia, and extends along a stretch of rocky coast. It is exposed to the south and well sheltered to the north by the Tolfa mountains and, for this reason, its geographical exposure is ideal, open to the warm winds of the south and well protected from the northern currents.
The coastline is characterized by the presence of numerous inlets and the unique morphology of the seabed that allows, in some places, for the development of waves that are good enough for surfing all year round, bringing surfers from all over Europe.
This charming seaside resort is characterized by its Art Nouveau style summer residences and its proximity to the Castello di Santa Severa, a famous medieval castle which stands right in the ancient Etruscan settlement of Pyrgi.
The Castle of Santa Severa is currently managed by the Lazio Region in order to make it accessible to visitors who will be able to retrace the 2000 years of history, visit the excellent Museum of the Sea, participate in handicraft courses and attend concerts and seasonal shows.
From April 2017, the “Castle kissed by the sea” has been home to an elegant Youth Hostel that bears witness to the new historical, artistic and cultural journey fostered by the Regional Administration.
