The town is located on the slopes of the Lepini Mountains. Right from Sgurgola you can take pleasant excursions into the hilly and mountainous nature of the area.

The village is also worth visiting, full of alleys, streets, stairs and walls.

According to tradition, the town was founded by Spartacus, the Thracian gladiator who led the slave revolt.

More likely, the town was born at the time of the barbarian invasions, as a refuge for the populations of Anagni, Ferentino and the other surrounding towns, given its protected position, which guaranteed control of the valley below.

Pope Boniface VIII ordered the doctor and prophet Arnaldo da Villanova to reside in Sgurgola. Here he composed De Mysterio Cymbalorum Ecclesiae, in which he drew the ascetic consequences of the imminent coming of the antichrist and the end of the world.

A walk in Piazza Pietro Sterbini is recommended, bordered by the imposing church of Santa Maria Assunta from the mid-1700s, of which, on the original façade, only the large rectangular portal made up of limestone monoliths is preserved.

Behind the church, resting on a rock bank, we find the ancient square-shaped bell tower.

The massive 19th-century clock tower has three floors and rests on a large round arch.

The Museum of Musical Bands is interesting, where, in addition to band uniforms and musical instruments, there is also a welcoming space for conferences and chamber music, with around forty seats.

In the valley below the town there are cultivations of vines and olive trees, and the Sacco River flows through them and opens into attractive waterfalls right near Sgurgola.

The cuisine is typical of the Ciociaria, polenta, homemade sagne and white polenta frascatelli.
